Skip The Crowded Hotel Experience in Seattle

Bringing a crowd to Seattle?

Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or business partners, we know that our guests love having plenty of room for everyone when you book accommodations with Stay Alfred. Even if it’s just one or two people traveling, our vacation rentals are an upgrade to a hotel experience with twice as much room and home-like comfort for a similar rate. At every Stay Alfred vacation home, you’ll have your own living room, fully-equipped kitchen, and en suite laundry available. Why stuff everyone into a few 300 square foot hotel rooms when you can explore the city while living like a local in one of our one, two, or three bedroom options? Here’s just two of our condo locations available for your next Seattle adventure:

Harbor Steps vacation rental by Stay Alfred

Harbor Steps: You’ve heard of Pike Place, right? Our Harbor Steps vacation rental is perfectly located right in the same iconic neighborhood. Just a five minute stroll down the street and you’ll find the famous fish market, Gum Wall, first EVER Starbucks store, The Great Wheel, and more Seattle legends.

Not only does this property boast an unbelievable 100 Walk Score, but plenty of exciting amenities and options for your stay. At the Harbor Steps, Stay Alfred offers both one and two bedroom choices. Some of our condos even feature a dazzling waterview of Elliott Bay. The Harbor Steps offers plenty of exciting community amenities, including a lap pool, hot tub, sauna, game room, community lounge, yoga studio, and fitness center. Even if you never leave your condo, you will not be at a loss for activities.

Olympus vacation rental by Stay Alfred

Olympus: Need a bit more room? Our Olympus vacation rental location offers both two and three bedroom condos for your guests. At Stay Alfred, we’re all about location, so it’s no surprise that the Olympus also is surrounded by attractions. Just a ten minute walk to the North, you’ll find the iconic Space Needle as well as the Seattle Children’s Museum, Key Arena, and Pacific Science Center. At a 15 minute walking distance, Pike Place isn’t so far away, either. The Olympus is just steps away from the scenic Seattle waterfront, and right across the street is the art lover’s fantasy of Olympic Sculpture Park. Grab a cup of morning coffee and take a walk around the latest sculpture installations as you gaze out at the glittering waters of Elliott Bay.

Inside your vacation rental, you’ll find home-like comforts as well as useful community amenities, including a business center, fitness center, media room, and outdoor BBQ grilling area. With city views surrounding you, you’ll feel much more like a local than a tourist. Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone.

City of Seafood: Best Sushi Spots in Seattle

From the famous fish tosses of Pike Place Market to the Ballard locks salmon ladder, Seattle’s distinct seafood culture is part of what makes this city so special. Naturally, Seattle is one of Stay Alfred’s favorite cities to sample sushi. After asking my sushi-obsessed office what restaurants in Seattle were the best, these were the top contenders. Feel free to let us know what sushi restaurants in town you have had the best experience at. Enjoy- and don’t forget to make a reservation!

Sushi Kashiba: Shiro Kashiba is Seattle’s own master sushi chef. Kashiba, an apprentice to famed world’s best sushi chef Jiro Ono from “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”, has delighted sushi snobs everywhere by opening his latest restaurant in Pike Place in late 2015. Sushi Kashiba might have a high price tag, but it doesn’t disappoint. Incredibly fresh fish is paired with other interesting seafood elements to create sushi as it is supposed to be savored. You’ll be graced with attentive service and helpful presentations on what you are eating. 86 Pine Street #1, (206)441-8844

Shiro’s: Chef Kashiba also opened this 11 seat restaurant in Belltown in 1994. Though Kashiba has since moved on to work at Sushi Kashiba, the excellence of this Spartan-simple yet iconic restaurant still lives on through lead chef Jun Takai. Expect incredibly fresh seafood and traditional Japanese fare at its finest. 2401 2nd Avenue, (206)443-9844

Mashiko Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar: We’re not letting Shiro Kashiba’s restaurants steal all the attention. Mashiko is another high-end sushi spot in town with an enthusiastic fan base and rave reviews. What makes Mashiko special? It is Seattle’s first 100% sustainable sushi restaurant. The chef knows where every single piece of piece of seafood is coming from and prepares it with delicate care. A perfect place for special occasions. 4725 California Avenue SW, (206)935-4339

Japonessa Sushi Cocina: Looking for a more unique sushi experience? Japonessa combines Spanish flavors and flair to sushi without compromising the taste of quality cut fish. Despite the non-traditional sushi preparation methods, Japonessa is a favorite of Seattleites. The sushi isn’t the only fantastic thing here- the sake cocktails will not disappoint. 1400 1st Avenue, (206)971-7979

Momiji: With a serene, Japanese decorated interior and delicious fish cuts, Momiji has become a popular choice for sushi that’s a bit more affordable than some of the more high-end spots in town. With friendly service, a pleasant atmosphere, and a great drink menu, Momiji allows you the full Seattle sushi experience without the sushi-snob vibe. 1522 12th Avenue, (206)457-4068

Tsukushinbo: Don’t forget about this spot just because the name might be a bit difficult to say! If you’re looking for a wide selection of both sushi and other Japanese delights in a friendly atmosphere, this slightly hidden spot in the International District might be the perfect place for you. 515 South Main Street, (206)467-4004

Umi Sake House: This popular, bustling Belltown spot is known for both delectable sushi and a well-loved happy hour. While traditional sushi restaurants are more quiet, serene, and simple, Umi’s large, club-like interior and extended drink menu is perfect for a fun night out. 2230 1st Avenue, (206)374-8717

Hidden Gem!
Wataru: This totally unassuming restaurant hasn’t caught the public eye quite yet in Seattle. Tucked away on the main street in the Ravenna neighborhood, Wataru is truly a small but pleasant surprise. Chef Kotaro Kumita (who apprenticed under Shiro Kashiba, of course) only accepts 6 diners at the bar at a time where you can watch as he single-handedly creates sushi for everyone in the restaurant. The whole restaurant only seats 24. With Chef Kumita being the sole chef in this restaurant, don’t come here expecting a rapid dining experience. The foodies are slowly finding out about this place- make a reservation before you have to fight for one! 2400 NE 65th Street, (206)525-2073

Not sure where to stay in Seattle?
Skip the crowded hotel experience and live like a local in Seattle’s best neighborhoods for a comparable rate. At Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals, we offer the most walkable and safe vacation homes in town. Of course you’re condo will be close by the best sushi spots, as well. Our Newest Downtown San Diego Vacation Rentals

Today, we’re proud to announce that we have just opened eight new two-bedroom, two-bathroom condos near the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego!

Since first opening vacation rentals in San Diego in late 2015, America’s Finest City has quickly become one of our most popular destinations at Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals. With so many exciting San Diego events on the horizon (including the amazing San Diego Comic Con!), we’re excited for our guests to come experience the best of the city while living like a local.

Our newest vacation rental homes are located in the Lofts at 707 Tenth building on Tenth Street between the East Village and historic Gaslamp Quarter. The vacation rentals feature all the amenities that Stay Alfred consistently delivers; including a private kitchen, living room, en suite laundry, and 24-hour customer service.

“At Stay Alfred, it’s our goal to provide our guests with access to the best downtown locations known to man,” said Jordan Allen, the owner of Stay Alfred. “We chose this location because we know that our guests will love the walkable area and the close access to the Gaslamp Quarter.”

The Gaslamp Quarter stands as San Diego’s premier nightlife paradise. Some of the city’s most interesting restaurants, bars, shops, and music venues can be found here. (Rumor has it that one of Stay Alfred’s buildings even hosts a secret speakeasy…) Of course, the Gaslamp Quarter is also a fantastic place for family fun, as well. For example, Ghirardelli has an ice cream and chocolate shop location here that we love. The Hard Rock Cafe of San Diego is always plenty of fun, too!

According to Walkscore.com, our latest property at The Lofts boasts a walk rating of 96 out of 100. The Gaslamp Quarter is only a 7 or 8-minute walk from Stay Alfred’s newest location. The upscale, modern lofts building also feature access to community amenities including a fitness center, business center, private theater screening room, sundeck, and outdoor fire pit in a community courtyard. The sundeck features a lovely view of the city. Conveniences including grocery stores, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops surround the area. Public transportation is close by, as well.

Reservation agents at Stay Alfred are now able to book these units for incoming guests. “We just opened these condos, so at this time we still have availability for San Diego Comic Con,” said reservations director, John DeRoulet. The San Diego Convention Center is an 8-minute drive or 18-minute walk away. Our latest location is perfect for a group of up to 5 guests per unit.

Stay Alfred currently hosts vacation rentals in seven different San Diego properties in numerous neighborhoods; including Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, the East Village, and Cortez Hill.
Not sure where to stay in San Diego? Stay Alfred’s vacation rentals boast twice as much space as a hotel for a similar price. Why cram your family and friends into a small hotel room when you can experience one of the city’s best neighborhoods like a local? For more information about our properties, click here or give us a call any time of day at 866-232-3864 and one of our knowledgeable reservation agents will help you book the perfect condo for your travel needs.

8 Fantastic Eats in San Antonio

We’ve sampled San Antonio and found the best eats in all of Alamo City. Whether you’re looking for something unforgettably gourmet or fantastic yet affordable, we’ve got you covered. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about San Antonio at Stay Alfred, it’s that the incredible culture here definitely shows in the local cuisine!

HIGH END CHOICES
Bliss: This New American style restaurant truly lives up to its name. With a romantic, twinkling ambience and friendly service, Bliss is a San Antonio favorite for a special date night out. Must try: Oyster sliders or shrimp risotto. 926 South Presa Street

Wildfish Seafood Grille: Wildfish Seafood Grille arguably has the best seafood in San Antonio, and a decent steak (or surf and turf style dish) if seafood isn’t really your thing. Must try: Chilean Sea Bass or the crispy crab cakes. 1834 North Loop 1604 West

Mixtli: Mixtli is the brainchild of two Mexican chefs and one boxcar. Every night, they serve only 12 guests at 7PM sharp. The menu changes every 45 days to reflect the history of a different region of Mexico. Expect very interesting and visually appealing offerings unlike anything you have ever eaten. An unforgettable experience for $95 per person. Must try: Try to get a reservation! 5251 McCullough Avenue

Restaurant Gwendolyn: James Beard Award-Winning chef Michael Sohocki has truly created one of San Antonio’s major dining gems. The concept of Cafe Gwendolyn is zero electricity- the chefs only prepare food in ways that could be done before the year 1850. Expect sustainable, fresh, and organic New American delights. Must try: The menu changes every single night, but you won’t be disappointed. 152 East Pecan Street Suite #100

Mi Tierra is a bit of a tourist trap, but we love it. Photo by: Mathieu Ploude via Wikipedia Commons

MORE AFFORDABLE
Dough Pizzeria: Incredible yet affordable pizza awaits you at Dough Pizzeria Napoletana. Guy Fieri from the Food Network even called it “the real deal”. Must try: Burrata sampler. 6989 Blanco Road

Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia (Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery): Fun fact, this spot was once featured on an opening episode of The Bachelor. It’s an obvious San Antonio tourist hot spot, but maybe that’s why we love it so much. Simply delicious Mexican eats and desserts in a fun, upbeat environment with CRAZY colorful decor. Must try: Deep fried ice cream. 218 Produce Row

Leon Valley Cafe: Reservations recommended. With glowing Yelp reviews (some of the best in the entire city), you’ll be surprised at just how small this loveable cafe is. Friendly service and simply delicious brunch, lunch, and dinner. Must try: Huevos Rancheros OR The Hangover Breakfast. 6526 Bandera Road

Cured: When Chef Steve McHugh was cured from lymphoma cancer in 2013, he opened one of San Antonio’s hottest charcuterie restaurants as a celebration of his victory. Naturally, the restaurant serves a wide variety of meats that are cured in-house from 30 days to 12 months-truly a carnivore’s dream. Don’t miss out on the excellent craft cocktails, as well. Must try: Charcuterie plate. 306 Pearl Parkway Suite #101

Stay Alfred Introduces Express Check-In

At Stay Alfred, we’re constantly turning travel assumptions upside down.

We’re committed to becoming the best and most trusted vacation rental company in the United States, and in order to do that, we are always innovating and finding new ways to better serve the needs and desires of our guests.

For the optimal convenience of our guests, we’re proud to introduce Express Check-In to the world of travel accommodations.

Most hotels offer express check-out where guests can leave the keys behind in their room and then feel free to hit the road. However, Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals is the first vacation home company to offer Express Check-In. Some hotels offer a type of express room entry to guests, but it’s usually part of an exclusive loyalty program and guests still have to receive their keys from the front desk in the hotel lobby. When you stay with Stay Alfred, you’re guaranteed to receive the quickest and most convenient check-in possible no matter how many times you have booked with us. No loyalty program is needed. Even first-time guests can have the VIP experience of a completely independent and hassle-free vacation rental entry.

Almost all of our vacation rental locations have a check-in process that puts hotels to shame. It’s different than any other sort of check-in available in the travel industry right now. It’s faster because it allows you to enter your vacation rental at your own pace instead of waiting for a concierge or standing in line. You won’t have to provide anyone with your driver’s license or credit card. You don’t have to talk to anyone or explain any details about your stay. You don’t even have to pick up your keys from a front desk. After a long day of traveling to your destination, we understand that you just want to check into your room, stretch out, and relax. With Express Check-In, Stay Alfred gives you the freedom to let yourself in. After all, we’re committed to giving you the experience of feeling right at home in your condo.

When you book with Stay Alfred, we’ll send you an email before your stay containing detailed instructions on how to enter your vacation home via Express Check-In. If anything at all is unclear to you, our helpful customer care agents can be reached 24/7 via phone, text, or email to provide you with any sort of assistance you might need. It’s that simple.

Stay Alfred’s introduction of Express Check-In is just one example of how we’re leading the industry by adopting new technologies and challenging outdated assumptions about how travel should be.

If you’re looking to book accommodations with the greatest possible amount of privacy, convenience, and value, Stay Alfred would love to help you find the perfect vacation rental. We always say, “Why cram your friends and family into a 300 square foot hotel room when you can book a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment for a comparable rate?” Give us a call any time of day at 866-232-3864 to speak to one of our helpful reservation agents.

An Art Lover’s Guide to Philadelphia

If you find yourself visiting Philadelphia at some point, you’re guaranteed to be taken aback by just how beautiful the city is. As one of our country’s oldest cities, Philadelphia boasts both gorgeous historical buildings and captivating public art at every turn. Philadelphia also is home to a thriving modern arts scene, as well. With spring in the air and summer just around the corner, why not take a day to enjoy an art walk or gallery showing? You’ll have a chance to experience the unique culture of the city that both tourists and locals enjoy.

Here are some of the best art related attractions and tours that The City of Brotherly Love has to offer:

One of the many murals of Old Town, Philadelphia. Photo by Robert Cudmore via Flickr

Philadelphia Mural Arts Program: Need proof that Philadelphia is truly an artistic metropolis? Old Town Philadelphia hosts the world’s largest collection of outdoor public art AND offers a number of unique tours to showcase it. Hundreds of eclectic murals span the landmarks of Old Town. You’ll see portraits, abstract art, comic art, landscapes, historic event inspired art, and more. How you would like to take the tour is up to you. Private walking tour with guided information? They have those. Trolley tour? Check. Segway? You bet! There’s even a “love letter” tour geared toward visiting the 50 romantic themed murals in the city. (Hint: Perfect for impressing your date on Valentine’s Day or any other time of the year.)

Philadelphia Museum of Art, photo by Krscal via Wikipedia

Philadelphia Museum of Art: With Greek-revival architecture based off of the Parthenon, it’s fitting that this museum houses an impressive collection of historical masterpieces. As the 3rd largest art museum in the USA, Philly’s art museum boasts a number of enviable paintings including Claude Monet’s iconic 1899 “Japanese Bridge and Water Lilies”. Insider tip: The first Sunday of every month and Wednesdays after 5PM are “pay as you wish” for admission. Otherwise, $20 admission during other times.

The Barnes Foundation, Photo by Smallbones via Wikipedia

The Barnes Foundation: At this uniquely crafted museum, you’ll witness the stunning art collection of the eccentric late Dr. Albert Barnes. The amount of classic paintings is so vast that you’ll be amazed that just one person housed so much history. Think Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, and the world’s largest collection of Renoir. Definitely plan to spend a day here and buy tickets in advance.

Philadelphia Magic Gardens, Photo by Alex Thomson via Flickr

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens: Looking for an art experience that’s a bit more off-beat than the organized gallery? Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is mosaic “art environment”, not just an art museum. Numerous tours and fun events are held here including happy hour!

First Friday: On the first Friday of every month, Old City in Philadelphia welcomes all art lovers to wander around and enjoy the neighborhood’s 40+ art galleries. Most are open from 5pm to 9pm! Of course, plenty of fantastic dining and nightlife also will await you in this area. Perfect for a fun night out with your date.

If you’re looking for the perfect New Orleans vacation rental, we’re here to help. Here’s just two of our incredible locations in the city…

925 Common vacation rental by Stay Alfred

925 Common: Located on Common Street in downtown New Orleans, Stay Alfred hosts two bedroom, two bathroom vacation rentals in this tall and proud tower with city views. At just a 5 minute walk from the excitement of Bourbon Street, you’ll be set to explore the French Quarter’s most beloved attractions either through walking or convenient public transportation (consider a streetcar!). At night, 925 Common is located just far enough away from the madness for you to get a quiet night’s sleep.

Step into your rental and you’ll fall in love with the designer counter tops, mahogany cabinets, and high ceilings. With a few different grocery stores nearby within walking distance, you’ll have the option of preparing your own meals in your rental’s fully-equipped kitchen. En suite laundry is available in each condo, so don’t worry about packing an overload of clothing! If fitness is your focus, a community gym is available for your use as well as a rooftop pool with views of the Mississippi River.

Saratoga vacation rental by Stay Alfred

Saratoga: This historical New Orleans building is located just a few blocks away from the action of the French Quarter. With close proximity to Bourbon Street or the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Stay Alfred’s rental apartments at the Saratoga are guaranteed to bring ease of travel to your NOLA adventure! With both two bedroom and one bedroom options available, the Saratoga is a perfect choice for those who travel alone or with up to five other guests.

Inside your rental, you’ll find a modern and spotlessly clean layout with all of the comforts of home. Save money by preparing your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen or head out into town to one of the nearby restaurants like Domenica. Since each condo is equipped with en suite laundry, even longer stays are made convenient. With a community gym available, you won’t miss a beat on your workout routine even while you’re away from home. When you’re feeling more in the mood to relax, take in the city views on the community outside deck or take a dip in the hot tub.

These properties and more (some with three bedrooms!) are available year-round for rent in New Orleans at Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals. Our philosophy is, “Why book a hotel room for a similar price when you can have all the space and comfort of living like a local?” Book online, or give us a call anytime at 866-232-3864 so we can help you find the perfect New Orleans vacation rental for your travel needs.

10 Quirky Things To See, Eat, or Do in Denver

Casa Bonita in Denver

Dating back to the times of the American Old West, the “Mile High City” of Denver has gone from a conservative cowboy town to a pinnacle of both athletic and artistic culture. From sports fandom, to snowboarding and skiing, to music and art festivals, Denver truly has something for everyone. At Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals, we’re always excited to share our favorite attractions in Denver with our guests. For those who might be interested in the more “off beat” cultural quirks of Denver, this list is for you. Here’s the ten weird things that Stay Alfred loves about Denver, Colorado:

  1. The Denver airport is rife with conspiracy theories. If you check out some of the odd art that adorns the walls, it’s not difficult to see why. Denver’s unofficial mascot, a 32 foot slightly creepy and deadly blue mustang greets all who enter the city. Nicknames for the sculpture include “Devil Horse” and “Blucifer” and opinions of the work of art range from embarrassment to adoration. It’s been a controversial piece.
  2. There’s a usable jail cell in Coors Field. Enough said.
  3. Denver has a special museum dedicated to toys and miniatures. This might sound a bit boring at first, but it’s a favorite of both adults and children alike. If you’re a fan of creepy dolls that look like they might come to life in the middle of the night, this is the place for you.
  4. An anonymous group called the Ladies Fancywork Society goes out and secretly “crochet bombs” public works of art, such as the Blue Bear that appears to be pushing the wall of the Colorado Convention Center.
  5. Denver’s food scene definitely has it’s weird spots. One of the most famous ones is Casa Bonita, a Mexican entertainment style restaurant that always leaves customers with divided opinions. After you wait in an awkward line for mediocre Mexican food, you’ll be visually overloaded with an enthusiastic mariachi band, divers jumping from a 30 foot wall, pirates, flame jugglers, gunfights, and the occasional guy in a gorilla suit. We are not making this up. This place is so ridiculous, it even has its own South Park episode. If you choose to brave this gaudy display, we recommend the sopapillas and definitely a margarita.
  6. In case you’re down for something a bit more grim than colorful and wacky Casa Bonita, there’s always Linger Eatuary, a restaurant that used to be Olinger Mortuary. No one in Denver seems to find this weird. The restaurant serves a wide variety of delicious new American food that seems to impress most reviewers. Fans of morbid humor enjoy details such as the embalming fluid glasses and casket advertisements that serve as decor.
  7. A hot dog stand turned restaurant known as Biker Jim’s in Denver is a carnivore’s dream- reindeer, pheasant, wild boar, buffalo, elk, duck, veal, and even rattlesnake. Traveling with a vegetarian? Biker Jim’s also offers an award winning vegan dog.
  8. Do you think rocky mountain oysters are weird? Denver takes this delicacy to a whole new level with Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout by Wynkoop Brewing Company. We’ll spare you the details of how this one is made.
  9. Want to pretend you’re from the 1920’s? Step into William’s and Graham, Denver’s Prohibition era speakeasy. The only problem you might run into is finding it.
  10. With the passing of some controversial laws, there’s no questioning the fact that Denver has become a hubub of diverse opinions. Although you might have to look a bit harder for it, cowboy culture still remains. Many bars and clubs embrace country music and Western style dancing. One of the world’s most famous cowboys, Buffalo Bill, has both his museum and final resting place in Denver. Also, the “Superbowl of Cattle Shows” is held every year at the National Western Complex.

The Ultimate Vacation Rental Packing List: 18 Items Renters Forget

The Ultimate Vacation Rental Packing List

If you’re considering booking a vacation rental next time you travel, you might have some questions about how vacation rentals differ from hotels. As the industry grows with newer and more convenient ways to book, thousands of travelers are trying a vacation rental for the first time. They realize that staying in a vacation rental means they can stay together and that vacation rentals are the perfect venue for celebration vacations.

But what should a first timer expect? Stay Alfred has prepared the ultimate vacation rental packing list to help you understand the difference between packing for a trip to a hotel and packing for a stay in a vacation rental-including the 18 items even seasoned vacation renters might forget!

For your Rental Home

  1. All-Purpose Cleaner and Sponges*: Unlike a hotel, a vacation rental is not cleaned every day. Having a little cleaner handy can help you take care of little spills and messes as they come up.
  2. Aluminum Foil: One of the chief benefits of a vacation rental is access to full kitchen facilities. Take full advantage of your cooking options with foil, wax paper or static wrap*.
  3. Baby Equipment**: Most vacation rental companies do not provide cribs or playpens.
  4. Bath Soap and Shampoo*: Some vacation rentals provide travel-sizes of some toiletries, but most cannot provide extra.
  5. Coffee, Filters, Cream and Sugar: Take advantage of the coffee maker provided in some vacation rentals with your favorite grind.
  6. Dish Towels and Dishcloths*: Although most vacation rentals provide one or two, you may want more for longer stays.
  7. Dishwasher Detergent*: Some vacation rentals provide a set of dishware and cutlery, but travelers can go through it quickly. Detergent lets your have fresh utensils at every meal.
  8. Garbage Bags*: Although most vacation rentals provide one or two, you may want more for longer stays.
  9. Groceries and Condiments: One of the biggest sources of cost savings with vacation rentals is the ability to avoid eating out every night. You’ll have access to a full-sized refrigerator, freezer, and cabinets; so pack the kinds of food you and your family love to eat.
  10. Laundry Detergent*: Most vacation rentals provide access to laundry facilities. If you plan do laundry while you travel, you can pack fewer clothes and towels.
  11. Napkins: Most vacation rentals do not provide napkins.
  12. Paper Plates: Some vacation rentals provide a set of dishware and cutlery, but travelers can go through it quickly-especially when they use plates to prepare or serve food. Paper plates cut down on the number of times you’ll run the dishwasher.
  13. Paper Towels*: Although most vacation rentals provide one or two spare rolls, you may want to bring extras.
  14. Salt & Pepper*: Some vacation rentals provide condiments, but it’s best to presume they won’t.
  15. Sheets and Towels*: Read your rental agreement carefully to find out what linens are provided. Many vacation rentals provide no linens at all, and most cannot accommodate requests for extras.
  16. Toilet Paper * and Facial Tissue: Although most vacation rentals provide two or three rolls, this is one supply that is too easy to forget.
  17. Toys and Games: Many vacation renters travel with their families. Because rentals are more comfortable than hotel rooms, they often find themselves spending more time together in the unit. Bring favorite games and toys to enjoy together.
  18. Ziplock Bags*: These are seldom provided by vacation rentals, but they have a dozen uses for a traveler.

The above items set this packing list apart from most other lists available. The remainder of the items are standard fare to an experienced traveler, but they may comprise a welcome reminder in the sometimes frantic days leading up to your departure.
